Titus 2 Tuesday: Beth Moore

It's baaack!  Titus 2 Tuesday gives us the opportunity to honor women in our lives who have taught us Biblical principals and truths.  If you'd like to participate, simply link up below!

She is full of knowledge and truths.  She's no doubt a living vessel of the Father's.  And she's so precious!  Beth Moore.  I simply love her!  And Saturday, I went with two precious friends to see Beth Moore's So Long Insecurity Simulcast.  We were at Woodstock First Baptist church, and while we were there, on the same campus as Beth, we were in the overflow room. 

But that was okay.  Because Beth came to visit during the lunch break!  And we were tickled!  She and her daughter Melissa did a little question and answer session while there, so it was very real and it seemed we got a small glimpse of the real Beth.

Beth spoke on her book, So Long Insecurity, and while the teaching she gave regarding being a SECURE woman in Christ, what really stuck with me was an answer to a question raised in her brief Question and Answer session during lunch.

A lady asked what was one piece of advice Beth would give to those of us who are raising girls in this world.  Obviously, I quickly pulled out my notebook and pen to write down just what Beth had to say. 

She quickly referred to Deuteronomy 6:5 - 9

"Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates."

For when we as parents Love the Lord with all of our being, when we impress God's commandments upon our hearts and that of our children, when we talk about them in our homes, when we tie them on our hands and foreheads, it's very much a ripple effect.  And then, everything we do, including raising our children, is done with the Love of the Lord our God.

On our way home, we talked about this.  And one of my friends said she had heard it said before that it's like throwing a stone into water and watching the ripples of the water.  This one command, to Love the Lord our God with all of our being, will ripple over into every area of our hearts and lives, including raising our children.

Now, I realize I am just beginning this journey of parenthood.  But I am already so thankful to have this little nugget of truth.  That I may bind it on my heart and be a true woman of God for my precious Molly.

Titus 2 Tuesday ~ Gma

I'm honoring my Gma today.  Sure, I've talked about her before here and here ~ both posts are full of precious memories and laughs. 

This weekend, my entire family honored Gma. 

As we should.

She turns 90 Thursday.  NINETY!  And she's sharp as a tack, full of spunk, and healthy to boot!

Here she is blowing out her candles on her cake, with the help of her great-granddaughters, of course!

 

(Sidenote:  Seriously?  May I please look as good as she does at 90?  K, thanks.)

Our family's full of girls; there are six grandchildren - all girls.  five great-grandchildren - 4 girls.  We are just overrun with girls.  We spent Sunday honoring Gma with a family dinner and reading poems, letters, and stories to Gma.

One of our family traditions is to take a family picture, followed by a goofy picture. It's really funny to us! I don't think I've really appreciated this tradition until Sunday, though.  While we were all crammed together for this picture, I could hear one young cousin say, "Now can I make a silly face?" before every picture!  It made me smile to realize it's all he's ever known. . .  the family's silly pictures!

And, since it's on Facebook for all the world to see, I guess I'll share it here, too!  Ha Ha!!

Sunday I was reminded, yet again, just how blessed I am!  Gma has taught all of us in the family so much about God's grace and love, either in her words or actions.  And I love her for it!

Titus 2 Tuesday ~ Kim

Welcome to another edition of Titus 2 Tuesday, where we honor women in our lives who’ve taught us Godly principles and truths.

This past weekend, I went on a Walk to Emmaus. W.O.W. It’s definitely an experience everyone deserves to be a part of. While there, I met many amazing women. My table-mates were all Godly women in one way or another, and I love them all for it. One of my table-mates was Kim.

Kim immediately touched my heart. Sometime during the day on Friday (If you have ever been on a Walk before, you know why I just say “sometime” . . . . no concept of time there. It’s God’s time. And it’s perfect! ), I remember we were discussing something at our table, and I was struck with Kim.

Strength.

Dignity.

She watches over her household.

Her children call her blessed.

She fears the Lord.

I could just tell. She was set apart from this world. I can’t really explain it other than that I could see Jesus’ face in Kim. And I was in awe. I remember thinking, “now that’s the kind of wife and mother I want to be.”

And the more I got to know Kim over the weekend, the more true that statement was. Kim is definitely a woman after God’s own heart, and I’m forever changed by knowing her and getting to spend such an incredible weekend with her.

Titus 2 Tuesday ~ Christina

Welcome to another (yes, late, too) edition of Titus 2 Tuesday, where we honor women in our lives who have taught us Biblical principals and truths.  Join us!  You'll be amazed at what other women teach you throughout your life!  I promise!

Do you read Christina's blog, Pooh's Corner?  What a ministry she has.  Christina's blog is a glimpse into the world of her family, specifically life with Emily, Christina's youngest daughter.  In Christina's words, her blog is about "our daughter Emily [who] was diagnosed with a rare chromosome disorder called Chromosome 17q21.31 Microdeletion Syndrome and this blog is our journey beyond the diagnosis. "

Christina is a talented photographer, too, so you're always sure to get a precious picture of Emily, Ashley (another daughter), nature, or just about anything! 

Today, Christina wrote a great post that resonated with me.  In fact, I have printed it out and intend to post it over my desk at work. The post is centered around Psalm 118:24:

This is the day that the Lord has made, let us be glad and rejoice in it.

Christina challenges her readers to do some simple but major things, "just for today".  Things such as being agreeable, just for today.  Speaking with words seasoned with grade, just for today.

Titus 2 Tuesday: YOU

Today, I'm honoring you, and you, and you.  See, last week, I posted this crazy emotional post.  Silly me.  I didn't even realize at the time that all my emotions were due to the hormones of pregnancy.  No, instead, I honestly was wondering what in the world was wrong with me!  Why did I cry at the end of The Price is Right ~ and not because I was happy with the winner but because the loser's price estimate was waaaayyy off and made me sad!

So, I stepped out on a limb.  Well, at least for me.  I'm intentionally careful of what I post because I realize it's on the internet for goodness sake and there's no telling who might see it.  I mean, my word, when I wrote the post on the 15th anniversary of my Daddy's death, 2 weeks later, the CEO of my bank called me to tell me he'd just read it and how he still missed my Daddy.  Not only was I touched beyond words, but that right there reminded me that I have no idea who's reading.  And that's great!  But I must choose my words wisely.

So, anyway, I stepped out on a limb and wrote a very transparent post about my emotions, my frustrations, and my thoughts.  And you?  You pulled through!  I seriously felt like I was being hugged and encouraged over and over again with all of your comments!  Thank you! 

While most of you hit the nail on the head by reminding me that it's totally par for the course with pregnancy, many of you reminded me that you're here for me.  You shared with me that you'd just cried when putting away sippy cups because you realized you'll soon be washing bottles all over again.  You promised me it's all worth it!  You reminded me of the incredible miracle I am carrying!  You assured me my every-so-often Diet Coke splurge is okay.  You gave me other medicinal advices and secrets. 

And I. am. So. Thankful for YOU.  I really am.  I'm amazed at the community of women I know and love here in this ole' blogosphere!  And I love you each for what you have said to me, how you've encouraged me, and how you're praying with me.  Thank you so much!

Titus 2 Tuesday: More Talented Friends

I'm continuing my highlighting of talented, crafty friends!  Today, it's all about my blog-buddies.  So many of you are so crafty and talented, and you create great things! 

If you haven't already, be sure to check out Melissa over at Initial Designs.  Melissa is an artist, and she can paint just about anything you can imagine!  I've bought a couple of things from Melissa, including a precious polka dotted E for Ellie's room and this canvas for my mom's baby area in her home.

Another talented blog-friend is Veronica at Hooked on You Hats.  She makes the cutest croqueted hats!  Oh how I wish it got cold here, and that Ellie allowed anything on her head!  If either of those happened, I'd have already bought quite a few of these precious little hats.  Here's a pic of my personal favorite. I love the scalloped edges and ribbon!

And of course there's Kristin's online boutique, Summer Suzette Couture.  Kristin creates anything from precious onesies and hair accessories jewelry and handmade cards.  And, often times ~ like now! ~ any proceeds from Summer Suzette sells are donated to a worthy cause.  How cool is that? I love this precious Creation Onesie, and that's saying a lot since I despise birds (another post for another day).

What I love about each of these women is that individually they have a passion for the Lord, for using the talents He's given them to His glory, and to creating special things for you or your loved ones.  That's just awesome to me!

Welcome to another version of Titus 2 Tuesday, where we honor women in our lives who have taught us Biblical principles and truths.

Last night, the women in my family gathered in Atlanta at the Coca-Cola Museum for a Paula Deen cooking show.  Now, you have to understand, my 89 1/2 year old Gma is convinced Paula Deen is the best cook this side of the Mississippi, no doubt.  So, the 9 of us packed into the museum's auditorium with 200 of our closest Paula-fan-friends and had a great time!  Paula was funny, silly, smart, and yummy!

There is Gma, front and center, of course.  You have my mom and my Aunt Lynda, plus the six cousins.  Yes, only girl cousins in the family!  Everyone was there, even my Aunt Nancy, whom I'm sure was there in spirit.  We laughed, we squealed like little girls ~ okay, Gma squealed like a little girl when Paula came out, we ate some good ole' southern cookin', and we talked and we enjoyed our time together.

And that's what I absolutely love about this family.  We're all busy in our own ways.  In the crowd above, you have a teacher, a retired teacher, an artsy stay-at-home mom, an attorney and mother, a financial whiz, a coffee barista and masseuse, a radiological tech and mommy, a banker and expectant mommy.  And the matriarch of them all who keeps us straight and in check!  But, when we get together, we're family.  Plain and simple.  Complicated and strong.  We've been through our share of heartaches and pains.  We've cried together and prayed together.  Always trusting the One who knows every step of our journey.  We've celebrated together.  We've hoped together.

So, last night, as I crawled into bed, I praised God for the amazing women in my family, for what they mean to me, for what they've taught me about life.  And for that I'm forever grateful!

Many of my friends are so talented!  And today, I'm honoring those friends who've taken the talents the Lord's given them and use them to make beautiful creative things!  The ones who can sew and monogram, the ones who create "purdy personalized" items for their friends and customers.  The ones who create, craft and design! Since Christmas is right around the corner, I'm spending the next few days highlighting my friends who design and create!  Check 'em out!

Titus 2 Tuesday ~ Ashley

This past weekend was not only spent celebrating our big news, but it was also my 30th birthday!  And, wouldn't you know my best friends and family threw a Surprise Party for me!!!  It was sooo much fun, and I was definitely surprised!  I hope I'll have some pictures (hint hint to any who were there with cameras) soon I can share with y'all! 

So, just as I was surprised and greeting everyone who was at the party, one of my dearest friends popped through the door.  Ashley lives in North Carolina, so it was a super treat to have her there!  Ashley is one of those rare women who just radiates with beauty, character, and warmth.  She truly captivates an audience with her charisma and zest for life.  Ashley worked at Disney World for a few years, and she's really an actress at heart.  I love Ashley for her love for life and all things in it!  She really is one of those women in my life who reminds me that a happy heart makes the face cheerful (Proverbs 15:13!

Ashley came bearing gifts. . .  It's something she's known for doing, and we love getting these fun boxes of goodies.  This was a pregnancy box, and she filled it full of fun, loving, and heartwarming things.

It has the sweetest Mother-to-Be card ever, and it included Palmer's cocoa Butter Massage Cream for stretch marks, crackers for morning sickness, a oneside that has Sleepy from Snow White on it with a cute little tag that said *hopefully* my little one will love to sleep, and my favorite of all, a jounal.  Each gift had a handmade tag on it, as you can see in the picture.  The journal's tag is my favorite:  "You know how in the Bible it says 'Mary pondered all these things and kept them in her heart' regarding her new baby?  Well, Mary had a better memory than me!"  Ashley goes on to tell me how she keeps a journal to her little boy of fun things, silly random things, and big stuff like her prayers for her son.  How awesome is that!  I absolutely cannot wait to fill it full for Baby S!  I already have a prayer journal I plan to fill with prayers during the pregnancy, so this journal is perfect for my thoughts I want to share with my baby!

Ashley, I am so glad I got to see you and you came to my party!  I love you to pieces, as we three girls say, "more than my luggage!"

Titus 2 Tuesday: Eleanor Grace

Today, I'm honoring the youngest little lady yet.  Eleanor Grace is my niece, as any of you who've been following my blog for a while know.  Ellie is 11 months old, and she has absolutely stolen my heart.  Yesterday, I honored my sister on her birthday, and Ellie is her daughter.

Ellie has taught me so much about God's love for us.  I never knew the feeling of truly loving a child so much that you think your heart might burst until Ellie was born.  Really, I loved her that much before she was born.  The promises God gives us that He knits us in our mother's belly and knows every detail about us, including the hairs on our heads came alive in amazing ways when Ellie Grace entered my life. I've mentioned before that my sister allowed me to be in the delivery room when Ellie was born.  Wow, what a miracle to experience!  I was in utter awe at the site of seeing a life be brought into this world, and really, all I could think was My God truly is Good. 

Ellie's big smile and sweet laugh reminds me time and time again to enjoy life.  Watching her little mind grow and develop has taught me to enjoy the little things in life.  Her smile is infectious, and her giggles light up our family!

Titus 2 Tuesday ~ My Mother

Welcome to another edition of Titus 2 Tuesday. I always enjoy thinking back through my week and determining who taught me a Biblical principle the week before.  And then there are times, like today, when I know who to honor, and while there are so very many things I've learned from this woman, it's so hard to put it all into words. 

Today, I'm honoring my mother.  I told you all of the bittersweet importance of last Friday.  Well, when I think of all that we went through and how God provided for us so much so in the days, weeks, months, and years that followed my Dad's death, I am overwhelmed with gratitude and love for my momma. 

Growing up, Momma was the disciplinarian.  There was never really the "wait til your Daddy gets home" line to scare me.  Rather, it was more of my mind knowing, "Oooooh, Momma's gonna get me for this one."  Maybe it was - and is - the teacher in her, but Momma always was the one to crack the whip and keep us girls in shape.

Momma loved us and provided for us in a way that was definitely second to none.  Looking back, after my Daddy's death, not one time did I ever wonder, "how's momma going to do this?"  I never ever doubted her.  I knew she'd make it through.

And sure, there were tears along the way.  Lots of tears.  But momma taught me early on the importance of honesty and transparency in a relationship.  We were oftentimes more friends than mother-daughter, but yet, I still respected her and admired her for being my mother. 

And now that I'm grown (knocking on the door of 30, actually!?!?!), I still love my momma so much for who she always was and continues to be in my life.  As a married adult, I am amazed at the dignity and strength she displayed through my Daddy's death.  I simply cannot imagine.  And as we have begun to dream of parenthood, I'm in awe of the incredible mother I have. 

Momma, thank you from the bottom of my heart for loving me through so many highs and lows in life.  You truly are the best and I thank God for you!!

Titus 2 Tuesday ~ Jennifer

For today’s Titus 2 Tuesday, I’m recycling a post from a few months ago and honoring a dear, life-long friend, Jennifer. I'll admit, I'm reposting this one because I ran out of time and just haven't been able to get a new post together.  But, it's pretty timely. . .

I met Jennifer on the first day of first grade. I don’t remember this exactly, but my mom has always said I came home from school and told her there was a new girl in my class, her name was Jennifer, and I did NOT like her. In fact, I called her a witch!?! Mother told me we don’t say mean things about people, reminded me that I’d just met Jennifer, and scolded me for being so harsh.


Days, even weeks passed.

One evening at supper, I announced that my new friend Jennifer had invited me to spend the night with her. My parents asked me if this was the same friend who I’d earlier told them was a witch.

Yep. That’s the one. She also wears big bows in her hair, and they always match her dresses. She always wears dresses.

Well, my parents let me spend the night with Jennifer, thus beginning a true blue friendship that’s lasted through band-nerds-to-cool-girls, first loves, proms, high school graduations, colleges (at different schools), weddings, and careers. I remember when she called me to tell me her granddaddy had passed away; I think we were in fourth grade, maybe?. . . It was the first funeral I attended, and I remember her catching my eye during the song, "In His Time". Both of our eyes were filled to the brim with tears. But somehow, I felt better just knowing my friend knew I was there. The Good Lord knew then that we'd comfort each other many times over in our lives. And each time, I'm reminded that He does make all things beautiful . . . in His time.

Today, Jen is that friend who’s always checking in to see how we are doing, she’s busier than I can imagine with a job that’s competitive, challenging, and flat out HARD WORK, and she’s the most compassionate person I know!

Anyone who knows Jen knows that a voicemail from her is almost like a song, “Hey, B, it’s Jen, hope you’re doing well. I’m just working along the coast today and thought I’d check in to see how you are while I’m on the road. We’re good, just staying busy.” This is only the beginning of her voicemail. We laugh at how you aren’t sure there’s a need to call her back because Jen tells you everything in her message! It’s priceless!

This past weekend, Jen's aunts and I threw a baby shower for her.  Thomas Price is due on Christmas Day! We had a fabulous time enjoying each other's company, laughing and reminiscing, smiling and looking forward to the future.  Jennifer will be an amazing mother. This is know for sure. After all, she’s been an amazing friend to me for years and years.

Heavenly Father, I thank you so much for putting Jennifer in my life almost 24 years ago. Thank you for the lady she is, for the mother she will be, and for her precious husband who cherishes her as she should be cherished. And, thank you for choosing her to carry a precious baby for your glory.

As I've mentioned before, I'm in the middle of an incredible Bible Study.  God has challenged me in so many ways during this study, and I'm so thankful for that.  We've been studying Esther, and as we are getting close to the end of Esther's story, I am realizing how much I've learned from her.

~ Esther was careful in what she said and to whom she said it.  Oh my, my, my, is this one for me.  I'm pretty sure God has fully intended on me "getting it" with this trait.  From her keeping the fact that she was a Jew quiet to the careful, calculated way she went before the King on behalf of her people, Esther was very particular about her words.  And her demeanor. 

~ Even when Esther was Queen, she still sought the advice of Mordecai.  I'm learning more and more the importance of seeking true Godly wisdom and advice.  It's more than asking my friends what they think; I mean, if they know what I want to hear, are they more likely to answer accordingly?  It's so important that we listen to advice and accept instruction.  (Proverbs 19:20).

Sure, these are just two things, but they're big.  B-I-G to me.  Oh how I long to be much more careful in the words I say and how I carry myself with others.

Titus 2 Tuesday: Ashlie

Welcome to another edition of Titus 2 Tuesday, where we celebrate the women in our lives and what they’ve taught us. Join in; we’d love to have you!

I’m recycling a Titus 2 Post from a while back. And I apologize, but that’s just as good as it gets these days with me. Too much shaking in my neck of the woods. Besides that, I find it worth repeating what a great encourager Ashlie is to me. I first posted this back in April. Today, Ashlie’s encouraging me in many new and different ways and for that I’ll forever be grateful!

I am one of few - in the world, perhaps – who can say that I lived with the same girl my entire college career. And that we never, not one time, had any sort of argument or disagreement. Never. She was the most amazing roomie for 4 solid years. During those years and since then, Ashlie has taught me so much about life.

From the wild days of our Freshmen Fall quarter ~ Ash, remember Opossum and his friends, our first night in Athens, and the freezing cold Auburn game where we sat on the concrete because of the fraudulent tickets and waaaaay too many people in the stadium ~ to the Bible Studies we attended, the friends we made, and the lessons we learned, it’s safe to say that 301 Church Hall and St. Andrews Apt 205 housed not only ourselves but our friendship, many laughs, our share of tears, and many memories of our college lives.

Ashlie has been one of the most influential friends I have in the area of my spiritual growth. It was Ashlie’s hand that held mine while we were seniors in high school sitting in church when a man in the audience began having a heart attack or stroke or something. The preacher stopped preaching and began praying for this little old man. Ashlie was also there when I fell apart one night during a Bible Study session our freshman year, over a very painful experience. And of course, Ash was right there with me, standing as a bridesmaid when I married Tim!

Ashlie taught me how to pray, how to rest in God, how to trust Him always, and how to seek His will for my life in everything I do. I love her dearly, and I truly thank my God for her!

Titus 2 Tuesday ~ Gma

This week, I’m honoring my precious Grandmother. Affectionately known to her 6 granddaughters, 3 great granddaughters and one great grandson as “G-ma”, my grandmother is a true matriarch, a true legacy, and a true Christian woman.


Yesterday, I had the opportunity to take Gma to the oral surgeon for a quick procedure. As is typical, the entire trip was worth remembering! Here are a few snippets of what was heard during our time together:

- While sitting at a green light waiting to turn left, Gma says, “Go! You can go!” I most certainly could not go, though. . . less she be creamed by an oncoming car. That’s when I quickly reminded Gma I was driving this buggy! She just laughed! Ha Ha!!

- Upon entering the doctor’s office, Gma says, “shoo, this place smells like medicine!”

- She refused to put her social security number on their patient information sheet. She gave me an ear full about that. “Someone” recently told her not to “ever EVER” do that. My money is that Nancy Grace has recently said that. Gma takes anything Nancy says to the bank!

- Since I was taking my lunch break to do this little trip, I was checking my emails on my phone. Gma leans over and says, “Are you texting? Or are you on that facebook thing?” She then has me explain both texting and facebook to her. She doesn’t understand why it’s called texting. Why not messaging?

- And that conversation led to blogs. I’ve mentioned before my cousin also writes a blog. Gma’s heard us talking about them, so I was trying to explain to Gma that they’re basically online journals. Gma seemed to think that was a little silly; aren’t journals supposed to be of your deep, private thoughts? She didn’t seem too interested until I told her Seoul-Mama uses hers mainly to document their adoption of Seoul-baby. Gma perked up then and thought blogs were an excellent idea!

- And only my 89-year-old Grandmother would come out of having a tooth extracted with gauze sticking straight out of her mouth and talk the ENTIRE ride home. She was non-stop! It was hilarious!

- Gma made me cookies as a thank you. Never mind that my favorites are her chocolate chip cookies. Nope, she gave me a batch of her homemade peanut butter cookies. Conveniently Tim’s favorite and Gma knows it!

Throughout my almost 30 years, Gma’s taught me so much. So many verses come to mind because my Gma taught them to me. I know Hebrews 13:8 ~ “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” ~ because of my Gma. She shared that verse with me after my Daddy died. I cherish it so very much.  I remember that being the second time in my life I'd seen my Gma cry; the first time was two years before when Gpa passed away. I also think of Gma when I think of a true woman of beauty and strength, such as Esther. And a true Proverbs 31 woman. Yep, that’s my Gma.
 
So after dropping her off at home, after her assuring me she would be just fine – with that gauze still shoved in her mouth – I left to return to work and thanked my God for her, for her humor, her wit, her legacy, and her love.

Titus 2 Tuesday: Vicki

"You must teach what is in accord with sound doctrine. Teach the older men to be temperate, worthy of respect, self-controlled, and sound in faith, in love and in endurance. Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. Then they can train the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God." Titus 2:1 - 5, NIV

Welcome to another edition of Titus 2 Tuesday where we recognize and celebrate the women in our lives who have taught or are teaching us Godly principles, sound wisdom, and truth.

I've been attending a new Bible Study for the last few weeks. Honestly? It's intimidating. I'm not sure it's the best fit for me, but in so many ways it's such an answer to prayer. I've been hungry for so long now for a true teacher. Not just a group of girls getting together to review what we've read; I want someone who's ahead of me on this journey, someone who's wiser than I. I want to be FED by a Godly woman.

And that is why my new Bible study is awesome

Meet Vicki.

What an incredible woman Vicki is. Already in two sessions, Vicki has ministered to me in so many ways. She's encouraged me, reminded me of God's constant provision, and loved me from the very first meeting. I tend to think it's crazy, really, but then I remember: IT'S GOD. Nothing "crazy" about it! She sends the group amazing little reminders all during the week to keep digging, keep pondering, keep considering how Esther (the study we're doing) applies to our lives individually.

Titus 2 Tuesday: Celebrating Shanda

Shanda has hosted Titus 2 Tuesdays as long as I've participated. And I just told her last week that it's my favorite meme around! She then shared with me her sensing God's prompting to lay aside blogging for a while. How sad I was. Selfish, I know, but I know I will miss Shanda's posts. And I'm sure I'm not alone.

Titus 2 Tuesday: Women of Faith '09 ~ Patsy Clairmont

Gettin' crazy over here, I am! Yep, combining a Titus 2 Tuesday with my recount of Women of Faith! If you'd like to join in on Titus 2 Tuesday, be sure to jump on over to Shanda's blog for details.

Friday night, after a pretty funny performance by Anita Renfroe (a whole 'nother Titus 2 Lady), this petite little lady bounced up on stage and absolutely touched my heart. Patsy Clairmont is one of the cutest little ladies I've ever seen. And most profound. Patsy's latest book is entitled Catching Fireflies, and in this book, she talks about all different kinds of light. But my favorite ~ and the light she spoke about Friday night ~ is the firefly. Like Patsy, I also have cherished memories of spending summer evenings in my Gma and Gpa's big back yard chasing these tiny, amazing creatures whose backsides light up! Now, you must understand that Gma and Gpa's house was only 30 miles from my house. But, I never did seem to see these "lightning bugs" in my yard. So, I always thought of them as Macon bugs.

Back to Patsy. Patsy spoke about the people in her life who have shone the light of their Savior in her heart and life. She spoke very openly about her dear friend who passed away from cancer, and the light she was to Patsy even in the bitter end. I couldn't help but think of my dear friend Amy. Or my Aunt Nancy. Both women lit my life with their firefly glow until the day they died. Then, it seemed to only glow brighter!

Patsy helped me to take a look in my life and recognize my fireflies. Who are those women (and men) whose Light has taught me a lesson? whose light has brightened my days? whose light has loved me? So, this week, I'm sending many of my fireflies a small thank you for being the light of Christ in my life. And I'm thanking God for them and for you!

Titus 2 Tuesday: Aunt Nancy

Two years ago last Tuesday, July 7, my Aunt Nancy crossed the finish line of life and entered into Eternity. How sad we were to say goodbye. But how thankful we were that she was no longer suffering; she was running, jumping, singing, and dancing with her Almighty Father.

After all, it had been years since Aunt Nan had even walked. Forget running. But she definitely sang til the bitter end. Multiple Sclerosis might’ve robbed her of the ability to go and do as she once could. But she could still sing her heart out! I think it might’ve been the last time my mom saw Aunt Nan, she was singing an old song from their childhood. It warmed my mom’s heart so much to think of Aunt Nan’s heart preparing her for celebrating and singing for all Eternity!

Aunt Nancy was one of those women who made definite impacts on my life just by being her.

We still laugh about the summer we were at the beach together - our families - and she lovingly rubbed the gold crab that sat on the coffee table, saying, “I just love crabs!” It was in her southern accent that made crabs more like “crayabs” and we all laughed til we cried over it! She definitely loved the beach, just as all of my mom’s family does. She was never afraid to putt putt through the sand in her scooter, marking her spot on the sand, sure to get the best view of the ocean and God’s creation.

Christmas and Thanksgiving dinners never were complete without Aunt Nancy’s famous cheese ball. And we still make it, in her memory. It’s just not as yummy as it was when it was made by Aunt Nan (no offense, Amy!).

In her final months on earth, she was so sick. She was weak. She was weary. She was tired. But she never, not for one second, waivered from her steadfast faith that her Heavenly Father would, in fact, complete a good work in her. And He did.

Aunt Nan, we miss you terribly. We love you beyond measure, and I admire you more than you can ever understand. Thank you for being a true Titus 2 woman in my life. You truly are “more precious than rubies”.
